Interested in Open Enrollment or our School for Advanced Studies?á Come by the Admissions Office any time and find out how you can become a student at Grant High School.á We invite come to New Student Registration this week in Grant Hall.
Interested in becoming a student at Grant next year?á Prospective SAS students, Open Enrollment students, and any other new student should come to Grant Hall for New Student Registration on Wednesday, 8/10, Thursday, 8/11, or Friday, 8/12.á Registration hours are from 8:00 - 11:00am.

Freshman Orientation and Freshman Picnic
We invite the parents of all freshman students to come with their students and join us for Freshman Orientation on Thursday, August 11th.á Freshman Orientation will be begin at 6:00pm in the Big Gym on Thursday.

That evening, families can meet our administrators, counselors, and some of our teaching and support staff.á In addition, you'll hear information about Grant High School and receive a tour of the school.

Freshmen, please join us for the Freshman Picnic the following morning.á Team-building and ice-breaker activities will begin at 9:00am.á Our after-school program (arc) will be providing lunch to all attendees.á After lunch, freshman will be able to receive a preview copy of their Fall 2016 schedule if they have their completed emergency card to submit.
First Day of School is Tuesday, August 16th!!!
Don't forget, Tuesday, August 16th is the first day of school!

Classes begin at 8:00.á Student dismissal is at 3:09 on Tuesday; we do not have a short Tuesday schedule that day.

Students may turn in their completed emergency card on the day designated for their grade level in order to receive a preview copy of their Fall 2016 schedule.á Blank emergency cards are available in the Admissions Office, or you may download and print the form (
EMERGENCY CARD).á Students who do not come for program preview will receive their schedule on the first day of school.á Lists will be posted around campus on Tuesday morning to let students know where to report for Period 1.

Program Preview:
  • Juniors and Seniors: Wednesday, August 10, 1:00 - 2:30
  • Sophomores: Thursday, August 11th, 1:00 - 2:30
  • Freshmen: Friday, August 12th, 1:00 - 2:30 (following the Freshman Picnic)
Summer Homework Assignments for ALL students
All students are expected to complete a summer reading assignment as well as a math packet to help them prepare for the 2016-2017 school year.á Information regarding the summer homework assignments was sent home with students in June.á Please visit the Summer Homework Assignments page to see the details about the assignments.á Information will also be included in a special mailing arriving in July.

Graduation 2016
Congratulations Class of 2016!á Graduation for all eligible seniors will be held on Thursday, June 9 at 6:00 PM at Grant High School's Football Stadium. AP and SAS Parent Night at Grant

AP and SAS Parent Night will be held on Thursday, May 19th, at 6:00pm in the main gym. áStudents who will be taking AP courses next year are encouraged to bring their parents so that they may find out about the AP courses, summer homework assignments, and about the AP program at Grant High School. Mr. De La Torre, our AP Coordinator, will be there as well as several of our AP teachers to provide information.


Grant's 2016 Film Festival
Please join us on Friday, May 20th for Grant's annual Film and Art Festival!á For only $5, you will be able to screen our award-winning student films, see fabulous art displays, buy delicious food from the food trucks, and so much more.á We hope you can join us that evening!

Chalk Art Festival 2016!
It's almost time for one of Grant's favorite traditions: our annual chalk art festival!á This year's theme is Only Love Can Conquer Hate.

Magnet Spring Boutique
Grant's Communications Technology Magnet will be hosting its Spring Boutique Fundraiser on April 16 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in front of Grant High School's Oxnard entrance.á A variety of selections will be available including: jewelry, handbags, candles, clothes and so much more!á Come pamper yourself and support Grant's students!á Download a copy of the flyer here!
Dr. Martin Luther King's autographed book at Grant!
Autographed book with Dr. Martin Luther King's signature has been authenticated!á During a recent cleaning of Grant High School's library, Dr. King's book, "Strength to Love," was discovered, and Principal Damonte took steps to research and verify Dr. King's signature.á Ms. Damonte will work to put the book on permanent display for the school.á Grant High School is honored to be able to share this treasure with students, families, and the community.á Please check out more information about the find on
Free Parent Workshop
LAUSD is offering a series of parent workshops which are available for all parents free of charge.á Sample topics:
  • Build a foundation for social and emotional wellbeing
  • Better understand your child
  • Respond more effectively to difficult situations.
The workshops are offered in Grant's parent center (B10) from 5:00-7:00pm on Tuesdays beginning February 23rd through May 3rd (except for Tuesday, March 22 due to Spring Break).á Participants will receive a certificate of attendance on Tuesday, May 3rd.

Interpreter services are available.á Please contact the parent center if you have any questions.
Grant Aca Deca Team at State Competition
Grant High School's Academic Decathlon Team is participating in the 2016 State competition.á Grant is part of Division 1 this year and will be competing against the current National Champions.á The State competition is held March 17 through 20 in Sacramento.á Please keep our students in mind, and we wish them well this weekend.á We are so proud of our Grant Lancers!
Grant SkillsUSA Students goes to State!
On January 23rd and 30th, SkillsUSA students from Grant HS attended the regional SkillsUSA regional competitions - along with hundreds of other students from all over LA and Ventura counties. á Each competition had about 30 competitors. áGrant studentsácompeted in Advertising Design, Pin Design and Job Demonstrations. áGrant student competitors were: Mariam Boyadjian, Onik Boyadjian, Riley Siegler, Jose Mata, Jessica Plotkin and Lee Sasi. áJessica Plotkin won a bronze medal for third place in Advertising design. Mariam Boyadjian won a Silver medal for second place in theáJob Demonstration category. áWhen the final results were announced, four Grant students (Mariam Boyadjian, Jessica Plotkin, Riley Siegler and Lee Sasi) were invited to compete at the state level competitions. Grant's 2016 Aca Deca Team
Grant High School's Academic Decathalon Team is in final preparations for this year's competition.á On Saturday, January 30th, the students competed in Speech, Interview, and Essay.

On Saturday, February 6th, they will be competing in Mathematics, Art, Music, Language & Literature, Social Science, Science, and Economics.á The competition culminates with SuperQuiz, an exciting relay which takes place in front of an audience.

Grant Cheer Is Number ONE!!!
On Saturday, January 30th, Grant Cheerleading participated in and took FIRST PLACE at the World Class Cheerleading Competition.á The competition, held at Ocean View High School in Huntington Beach consisted of about 40 participating teams.á Grant Cheer participated in the Small Varsity Coed Division and took home the trophy.á We are so proud of you LANCERS!
2015-2016 School Experience Survey
It's time for LAUSD's annual School Experience Survey.á Survey administration is from January 19th to February 11th, 2016.
Students and parents have paper surveys distributed at school sites, but may choose to take their surveys online. School staff members take their surveys online. Please allow at least 30 minutes to complete the survey as it must be completed in one sitting. Links to online surveys are below:

Seniors--Almost time to fill out your FAFSA!
Seniors, did you know you can file your starting 1/1?áá From AP for Students, here are 7 things you need to know about financial aid:

Don't know what a FAFSA is or need help?á Check in with our college counselor, Mr. De La Torre, in the college office for more information about filing your FAFSA.
Have you registered for the SAT?
The last administration of the current SAT will take place on Jan. 23.áá You will need to register by Dec. 28 to take the exam.
New Student Enrollment
Interested in enrolling at Grant?á For students beginning at the start of the new semester, please see us in Grant Hall when school starts on January 11th.á Enrollment materials will be available as well as our counselors, who will be registering you in your classes.

Enrolling students must bring a parent/legal guardian, a copy of their transcripts, proof of address, and immunization records when enrolling.
Spring Semester Starts Monday!
Students, the new semester starts on Monday, January 11th with Periods 2, 4, 6, and 8.á As always, school begins at 8:00am, but please come early, especially if you are anticipating a schedule change, so you will have time to see where your first class is on Monday morning.

Lists will be posted around campus to let you know where you should report.á You will receive your program card from your Period 2 teacher.

New students, please report to Grant Hall for enrollment and class scheduling.

Last day of the semester attendance challenge!
Grant High School encourages all students to meet the district's goal for students to have 7 or fewer absences per year. áTo remind students about the importance of good attendance, Grant HS held an opportunity drawing for students on Friday, December 18th, the last day of Fall Semester. áTwo lucky students received 7 inch Kindle Fires, and 5 students received various gift cards.

We look forward to the beginning of Spring Semester and all of our students attending their classes on time every day!
Grant's Holiday Extravaganza
Thanks to everyone who participated in, supported, and attended Grant's Holiday Extravaganza on December 11th.á More than 150 students performed in the event that was produced and organized by countless people behind the scenes. A packed audience was delighted by all our student performers: singing, dancing, playing instruments, and more!

A special thanks to Ms. Wright, Ms. Higgins, Ms. Cole, and Mr. Thurow who made this event happen!
